ASSOCIATION OF PARENTS OF DISAPPEARED PERSONS- KASHMIR, INDIA

The APDP was founded in 1994 when a large number of parents used to visit the High Court to file or to pursue the Habeas Corpus petitions. The relatives used to take the individual efforts in a disorganized manner. Finally, its Patron, Parvez Imroz, a practicing lawyer and a human rights activist with the help of its Chairperson Parveena Ahangar, herself a victim of enforced disappearances, put them on collective forum for joint efforts.
The APDP is an association of sufferers wronged by the functioning of the state. The members are campaigning for the truth about the whereabouts of their missing relatives. Any person who is a victim of disappearances could be member of the association. The association has no political affiliations or political positions. It is an independent group seeking justice from the state.
The APDP is one of the founding members of the Asian Federation Against Involuntary Disappearances (AFAD).
