RESOLUTION No. 2000-6
APPRECIATING THE WORK ON KONTRAS FOR BEING THE HOST
TO THE ASIAN-LATIN AMERICAN LAWYERS MEETING ON THE
PROBLEM OF DISAPPEARANCES AND IMPUNITY

WHEREAS, as decided upon by both the AFAD Congress and its Council, convened in May 2000 in Manila, Philippines, this meeting of Asian and Latin American lawyers has been convened in Jakarta, Indonesia being a country which is continually being victimized by the phenomena of enforced or involuntary disappearances;

WHEREAS, KontraS, a member-organization of AFAD, has with the utmost sense of responsibility, accepted the above decision and had made the necessary preparations to realize the meeting;

WHEREAS, KontraS, to the best of its capacity, has provided AFAD with all the human and material resources necessary to realize the said meeting;

WHEREAS, KontraS had, to the best of its capacity, manifested its hospitality to our brothers and sisters in other parts of Asia and Latin America.

THEREFORE, we, the participants to the Asian and Latin American Lawyers Meeting, RESOLVE:

1. to express our heartfelt appreciation to KontraS, specifically its organizers and supporters, who helped and contributed to the success of the Conference;

2. reiterate our continuing support to KontraS as a member of AFAD in its continuing struggle to seek for truth and justice;

3. reaffirm the importance of solidarity amongst the families of the disappeared, activists and lawyers in the search for the disappeared and the resolution of human rights violations.
